Empowering Iowans of faith and conscience to take bold and just climate action.

First Spring Flowers by Lindsey Pepper

A message from executive director, Deaconess Irene DeMaris:

Springing into a New Chapter

How is it March and we are fast approaching the first day of spring on Sunday?

Spring is a season of new beginnings, fresh starts, new growth, and a chance for positive changes. Iowa IPL is no exception to this. At the beginning of the month, it was announced that I was stepping into the role of executive director. And we added two new board members: Rev. Dr. Belinda Creighton-Smith of Waterloo and Sr. Ruth E. Westmoreland of Clinton! It’s already been an exciting month as Iowa IPL turns a new chapter in empowering Iowans of faith and conscience to take bold and just climate action.

So, what’s next for Iowa IPL as we spring into a new chapter?

Our System Is Broken - It Needs Fixing

At Central College, the concept of sustainability is ingrained in our campus culture. Global sustainability is taught to mean meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. For me, this means enacting climate policy that maintains our current resources today.

Monthly Climate Strike Time Change

Lillian Hill's next capitol climate strike will be on March 28th with a time change of 11 AM. Check out our events page for more updated events happening in the next few months. From an Earth Day 5k to a training on identifying anti-immigrant discrimination, there are many events happening around the state of Iowa that that Iowa IPL is excited about!

Now Hiring: CTCA Student Leaders

We are now actively recruiting for our Called to Climate Action summer leadership program. This is a paid opportunity for Iowa college students, with the position beginning in late May and ending mid-August.
